It’s almost time for “la fête d'Halloween!” It is an exciting time for many of our students. They are busy planning their costumes, their trick-or-treating route and how they are going to carve their pumpkins. It is a great time to teach some important French vocabulary!
Costume Discussion
Have students collect some photos of costumes from local sales flyers or print one from the internet. Have students bring the photos to class and describe what the costume looks like to a classmate or as a written assignment. Alternatively, you can hang the photos on the board and describe the photo and have students look to find the correct costume.
Magic Potions
Students can practice expressions of quantity by writing a recipe for a magic potion (or Halloween treat).
Halloween Charades
Cut out words from a Halloween vocabulary list (see list of resources below or word wall cards available HERE).Place the words in a box and have students take turns choosing a word. Have them ‘act out’ the word to see if the class can guess the word in French.
Pumpkin Carving
Show students a video on how to carve or decorate a pumpkin. Ask students to name what they see in the video, or focus on ordinal numbers or process writing in French.
Add some fun and and games to your FSL classes - BINGO, SUDOKU, WORD SEARCHES and Word Wall Cards available HERE. |
To help you to integrate all of the great discussions that can be had in the target language during the next few weeks, I’ve compiled a list of resources that will appeal to FSL students in grades 4 and up.
